RAF Cardington Camp

RAF Cardington 1960 onwards

RAF Cardington1

Apart from the most wonderful information supplied by Alan Thomas the Postal Clerk at RAF Cardington in the 1960's operations during the years 1965 - 1999 are proving quite difficult to research. In these years various services gradually disappeared with whole units civilianised or transferred to other RAF stations.

Alongside the main operations of the Gas Plant & The Balloon Unit there were always other peripheral units at the Station - so called 'Lodger Units". For example Meteorological research had long been a mainstay at Cardington. If you worked in one of the less well known units at the station please send in your stories as not enough is known about them.

This section has two pages contributed by Alan Thomas (left)  - the first charts Alans personal recollections of his stay at the station between 1960 - 1965 and the second gives us a detailed description of the functions of the station in these years.
